I have a variety of field and laboratory- based studies addressing different aspects of critical zone development and sustainability. The main research topics include:

 

• Silicate weathering processes and soil regeneration and restoration - From bare rock to fertile soils- the early stages of critical zone and soil formation, and post-soil loss regeneration and restoration.

 

 

 

• Geo-Bio-Chemical cycles in the critical zone - Microbial, fungal and plant interaction with the bedrock and soil and their role in weathering, and micronutrient uptake and cycling.

 

 

 

• Environmental controls and extreme events on soil quality - In a world of changing climate with an increase in extreme events (e.g., droughts, heavy rains and flooding, and increasing frequency of fires) what is going to happen to our soils?
